Turning a traditional house into a workshop

古民家を、工房にする

Right in front of the Kurama Onsen bus stop stands a traditional house. It was once a family home in Kurama. This is where Kurama Kobo will be.

It is solidly built, with thick local pine beams on the upper floor. We are working on it while keeping what is worth keeping.

The ground floor will be a shop and a cafe. We would like it to feel like an engawa veranda, somewhere you can look out at the trees along the Kurama River and hear the water.

The upper floor will be a space for workshops and hands-on experiences, large enough for about fifteen people at a time.

The back will be an open garden. We want it to be a sheltered place where you can eat and drink outdoors. There is a large piece of Kurama stone there, and we hope to make a spot where you can sit on it and look at the mountains.

The grand opening is planned for the spring of 2027.
